Cancer Awareness A basic understanding of cancer is: "...a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body." (National Cancer Institute definition) Throughout your lifetime your cells will grow, divide into new cells, and the old ones die (apoptosis). Each cell in your body fully replicates and is replaced within a ten year period (thus the significance of each decade milestone). When this process gets disrupted abnormal cells grow and replicate unregulated and create tumors, hijacking the bodies' natural processes to feed them. Eventually the amount of malignant cells outweighs normal cells and blood and other nutrients are diverted enough that life sustaining functions begin to fall away as the body slowly shuts down. According to a Pubmed publication by Barry G. Wren, "...causes of mutations...[are] a sequence of random, accidental, spontaneous mutations during normal stem cell replication." In other words- they don't know what causes cells to mutate! How are people supposed to protect themselves against something completely unknown? This is an unacceptable explanation, and I recommend you don't settle for it either. He goes on to state that, "Accumulation of genetic abnormalities, over time, leads to development of a colony of cells that are pathologically abnormal." Ok... but what if that isn't the whole story? How Cancer Is Created What you haven't heard, and won't hear from your oncologist, is that cancer is not genetic in nature. This is life changing information. The commonly held belief is that your genes determine whether you are at risk of cancer, so if a family member was diagnosed with melanoma then you and your entire family need extra screening for this type of cancer (this was the case with my father). After all the work that went into the Human Genome Project, how could they discard this theory? The truth is that cancer, instead, is a metabolic disease. Metabolism is, "the sum of the physical and chemical processes by which living organized substance is built up and maintained (anabolism), and by which large molecules are broken down into smaller molecules to make energy available to the organism (catabolism). Essentially these processes are concerned with the disposition of the nutrients absorbed into the blood following digestion." This means that the food you consume, the environmental factors you are exposed to, all influence the function of your cells replicating- specifically it is the powerhouse of the cell that is crucial, the mitochondria. Dr. Thomas Seyfried PhD, professor at Boston College and author of Metabolism as a Cause of Cancer, has performed extensive research to come to this conclusion. He explains that cancer is a side effect of free radical damage to the cells. This damage hinders oxidative respiration of the cell making it fermented and reliant on glucose and glutamine. What is the main driver of damage to the mitochondria? Chronic inflammation. Sugars, carbohydrates, seed oils, are some examples of foods that cause inflammation within the body. These factors are consumed in high amounts in the western diet of highly processed foods. If you deprive the cancer cells of glucose and glutamine you have your cancer cure. I highly suggest you take 45 minutes out of your day to listen to Dr. Seyfried give a detailed explanation of his findings. Knowledge is power. What About Standard Practice? Since standard practice revolves around the genetic theory of cancer origin, the best approach offered is chemotherapy, radiation, and cut the tumor out. Sadly chemotherapy and radiation are often the cause of mortality in cancer patients versus the cancer itself. Immunotherapies are a new approach to battling cancer, however there is a high risk of the T-cells attacking regular organs leading to complications that ultimately end in death. By understanding the function of cancer cells through the metabolism lens (this is an extension of the Warburg Effect, a theory of cancer metabolism founded by Otto Warburg nearly 100 years ago), doctors can work with a patients body to bring it back to homeostasis and starve out the cancer cells bypassing negative side effects associated with drug therapies, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and extractive surgery. What Now? Again, I cannot stress enough how much knowledge is power.

Go down the rabbit hole, dig up more information. Nutrition is power and the recommended diet has been an experiment for 50 years. We now know that the result of the recommended diet of high carb, low fat, GMO, chemical laden foods is cancer. Are you ready to do something different? Let's get together and get you started.
